Is Education A Necessity Or A Benefit - 2569 Words
Education is a necessity in this generation that is constantly changing behaviorally and academically. The answer to the question; whether education is a necessity or a benefit, education is required for most jobs and without an education; there is a slim chance at finding a job and making a living. Much debate is brought about different races and ethnic backgrounds that are attending college and their success in the workplace, how did one achieve such success with their background? Was their job handed to them because of the color of their skin? For many years, African Americans, Asians, whites, and Hispanics were all treated with a different kind of respect while being in education. All in all, Hispanics are growing rapidly in America and an important topic is Hispanics in education because of the minority of those Hispanics who actually succeed in education. One of the many stereotypes that are viewed about Hispanics is all the diseases they carry, and their obesity. As of 2012, in the United States alone Hispanics bear to some type of chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and or, hyperlipidemias (Aguirre, Wilhelm, Joshi, 2012). Most of the Hispanics or Latinos that come into contact with a disease of any type and end up catching the disease; are uninsured or underinsured than most of society in America. When comparing to a white American, the risk for a Hispanic to be diagnosed with diabetes is 66% higher than the average white American. The reason for Hispanics contracting more diseases than other races or cultures is because of their low socio economic status, limited knowledge on health issues, poor access to health care, and their own cultural beliefs (Fortmann, 2015). In the Hispanic culture, food is a part of their culture and is now loved by many other cultures especially here in America.
